New Jersey Fire departments are invited to apply for a special $1,000 grant from the New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board (NJFSAB) to be used to construct a Side-by-Side Burn Demonstration unit and host an event to promote fire safety in their communities.
The Side-by-Side Burn Demonstration features two fully furnished rooms, that are set aflame simultaneously — but only one has a fire sprinkler system. This illustrates how quickly fires can spread, and the important and life-saving role fire sprinklers play in controlling fires, which will save property and lives.
“Our mission is to educate the public about fire safety and increase awareness about the effective role fire sprinkler systems play in helping people protect their loved ones and their property,” said David Kurasz, Executive Director of NJFSAB. “Fire sprinklers react in minutes controlling the spread of fire and giving families more time to escape, and they reduce the risk of dying in a fire by 80 percent.”
“The Grant program is a great way for us to provide local fire departments, both volunteer and professional, with access to the funding they need to add a great tool to their fire prevention programs and better inform and protect the residents of the communities they serve,” said Kurasz.
The Grant funding provides for building materials, fire sprinkler supplies, and construction plans. In addition, NJFSAB provides hands-on support from construction through the public demonstration.
