NJFSAB Member Named NFSA Chairman of the Board

The New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board (NJFSAB) is proud to announce that Board of Directors member Kent Mezaros has been elected to serve a two-year term as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA).

“Kent is the first NJFSAB member to achieve the top position with our national organization – NFSA,” said David Kurasz, NJFSAB Executive Director. “This is a tremendous accomplishment and testament to Kent’s commitment, both in New Jersey and on the national level, to promote fire sprinkler initiatives that save lives.”

Mezaros is the current CEO of Quick Response Fire Protection in Freehold, N.J. and has worked in the fire sprinkler industry for over 30 years. He is a qualified residential fire sprinkler expert in New Jersey, has certifications in fire sprinkler systems, special hazards fire systems and fire alarm systems, and is a long-time volunteer and industry advocate.

“I am humbly honored and thankful for the opportunity to serve NFSA and our members,” said Mezaros. “My goal is to focus on growing NFSA membership, getting more professionals actively involved in the organization, and doing what I can to move forward a number of sprinkler initiatives that NFSA has been working on for a while now.”

Some of these issues include: encouraging residential fire sprinkler systems in single and two-family homes; the retrofitting for at-risk occupancies where there may be difficulties for evacuating such as nursing homes, high-rises and schools; and working through the code adoption process to ensure that sprinklers stay in buildings where they are currently mandated, and to incorporate them into places where they are needed.

Mezaros previously served NFSA as Vice Chairman, the NJ Chapter Chairman, and has participated on several special committees. He has been an active member of the NJFSAB Board of Directors for more than a decade, and is a member of the New Jersey Residential Fire Coalition. He was a founding member of the Coalition for Safe Student Housing which drafted and championed the dormitory retrofit law in response to the tragic fire at Seton Hall University.

“The dormitory retrofit law was something I will always feel proud to have been a part of,” remarked Mezaros.  “It was a great victory for the safety and protection of students, and for our state which was the leader in this fire sprinkler effort.”

“NFSA is different from other trade organizations because they are all-encompassing; contractors, manufacturers and suppliers all representing the industry and working together for the common good,” said Mezaros who is up for the challenge the position offers.  “There is always something lurking around the corner and unfortunately fire strikes when and where it chooses.  We need to be there and be ready to react to help protect lives and property from the danger and damage of fire.”
