NJ Herald: Hampton Elementary Students Learn Lessons in Fire Safety

HAMPTON—According to the National Fire Protection Association, three of every five home fire deaths in the United States result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working alarms.

This year during Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 9–15, the association is promoting the theme “Don’t Wait—Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years” to educate the public on basic but necessary smoke alarm safety.

At the McKeown Elementary School in Hampton on Wednesday morning, volunteers from Hampton Township Fire and Rescue stressed to the students the importance of having their family check their home smoke detectors and reminding them that if a fire should break out in their home, follow the motto “get out, stay out.”
